Notice how Garrett is fixing his hair...and he's not even aware that I'm taping him! :)

Concert Date
This is some short video I captured from the 'Awake & Alive' Skillet tour. Cailey doesn't normally care for their music, but appreciated the live performance! It was a great night, even though my poor wife wasn't feeling well.
Black Friday
Yep, the whole family got up @ 4:45 a.m. and hit the road. Had a great time at the mall, Zips for lunch, then about a two-hour nap. A little more holiday shopping tomorrow, then back home. We love the holidays. Oh, did I mention Turkey-Day leftvoers? (Yeah, baby)

Flu in the home
So Garrett was ill last week, Kelcey was worse all this week, and now Josh woke up today sick! Four of us were able to get flu shots tonight...last bunch in the county.
Cailey got her new laptop, and her and I are going on a date in two weeks to see Skillet live in concert.

Perspective
Recently, our church experienced the resignation of our Senior Pastor of 14 years as well as our Worship Pastor. While some dealt with the news better than others, the fact is that times of change like these are difficult for everyone to varying degrees. For some this means losing a mentor, friend, co-worker, or counselor. For others this is a time of ambiguity. What does the future hold for our staff? When will we fill these positions? Can this be prevented from happening in the future? All great questions....with answers to come later. In the past few days I have heard everything from, "It shouldn't have happened this way" and "I'm not sure if we'll be attending church there anymore" .......to "I have to trust the leadership in this matter and continue to do my part as a member" and "We're stepping into a new era right now...and its very exciting."
Today, there are three simple facts that I am holding onto firmly:
FACT #1 We cannot change our current situation. God is hoping that we hear Him now better than ever.
FACT #2 We have no control, and little influence, over how people react to this. We do, however, have complete control over how we choose to move forward.
FACT #3 God orchestrates change. Weather constantly changes, employment rates go up and down, diapers don't stay clean very long, and pastors come & go. The best thing is that even though God desires changes of all kinds...He always remains the same.
I am enduring pain and loss too! But I also choose to embrace change...sprinting to it, eager to see what my Lord has placed there for me.
In His Service,
Pastor Brent
Titus 3:2
They (believers) must not slander anyone and must avoid quarreling. Instead, they should be gentle and show true humility to everyone.

Family update
Well I recently got back from visiting friends in Michigan for a week. Went to two graduations, ate at Qdoba, Smokey Bones, and Fizoli's, and got beat by Kevin in raquetball. It was hard to leave.
I preached on June 7th out of Philippians 3 and used some 80s songs as illustrative items in the message. Overall, I think people enjoyed it.
Just went to Garrett's 8th grade graduation last night...got some good video. Garrett and Connor are supposed to get a call any day now to find out about working picking strawberries this summer. It'll be hard work but they're excited about it.
Kelcey has been working as a teacher in one of the church's nursery rooms on Sundays. She's making a little money and really enjoys her class. She will also be volunteering with a book club at the public library this summer.
Josh is having his last day of school today and is excited for his summer break. He has signed up for the book club this summer and is loving it. Honestly, every time I look at the kid he has his nose in a book.
The biggest thing we have going this summer is our family vacation! Tent camping for 7 days in Lincoln City, OR is going to be so relaxing. Dinner at Mo's and just being lazy all day at the beach...PRICELESS! I'll post tons of pics after we get back to reality :)
We may be taking a group of kids from church to Silverwood in August for a summer camp experience. Still in the planing stages right now.
I have my first wedding to officiate in August, then another in September.
That's pretty much it for our summer. ttyl

Recently
Well, let's see. Kelcey's been home sick with high fever and cough for 5 days. Easter was amazing and tiring. I'm looking forward to hopefully visiting friends back in Michigan next month. The kids are all doing great in school (awesome grades) . Working on Home Group items, including online networking. Cailey's working hard at leading the kids and leaders of UpStreet (kid's church). And then the big delemma...Cailey wants me to trim my gothee!! She says its too long. So I guess I'll have to get creative to 'change it up' a bit!
Until next time...
Until next time...

Loving Yourself
“Jesus commends and even commands an aspect of self-love, yet there is a difference between loving ourselves and being in love with ourselves. The first rests our value in God; the second demands a value above all others. When we value ourselves properly, we do not devalue others. When we devalue ourselves, we deny our divine value….Loving ourselves is the natural result of yielding ourselves to the selfless love of God.”
- Erwin McManus, Stand Against the Wind
My encouragement for you today is to love yourself the way God loves you, discounting how lovable society might say you are, and then pass that on to those around you. Jesus called us to be the light of the world, and to love our neighbor as ourselves, and even to love our enemies. I would suggest that that kind of selfless love can only be given when we are truly able to love ourselves. Spend time this week praying and asking God what it is that he loves so much about you and start there with building a God-centered relationship with yourself.
